General iPad Information
iPad Model
Starting the 2025-2026 school year, incoming freshmen will be receiving a 13" iPad Air with included case.
What is the role of the iPad in an education at Jesuit?
Much like a calculator, pen, notebook, or classroom display, the iPad is one tool among many that students use at Jesuit. It will not complete homework for students, nor will it read, analyze, digest, comprehend or make students think more critically about their studies. It is simply a tool that students will use to aid his efforts. Students and teachers are expected to use it when it is helpful, and put it aside when it is not.
App Store Apps
Once an app is purchased, it will forever be linked to the Apple ID used to purchase it. If a student switches to a new iPad in the future, his purchases will ‘follow’ him. As long as he uses the same Apple ID, he will not need to purchase the app again. If he uses the same Apple ID on multiple iOS devices, the apps he purchased will also be available on those devices using the same Apple ID. If an app was purchased on another Apple ID and is linked through Family Sharing, they may also gain access to the app.
Can students download other apps that are not required by the school?
Only the required apps and digital textbooks that are not offered in another format are required. The school will not prevent students from downloading other apps as long as they are consistent with the school’s Acceptable Use Policy found here. Of course, parents may establish their own rules with their son regarding what apps and content he is allowed to download. Apple Family Sharing can be extremely useful here.
Will a student keep the same iPad all four years at Jesuit?
Yes. Based on the school's experience, the iPad's hardware and software work well for four or more years. However, we analyze both the performance and software compatibility of our fleet of iPads each year and make adjustments accordingly.
Will returning students be allowed to keep their iPads over the summer?
Yes. Students may keep their school-issued iPads over the summer.
Who owns the iPad?
The cost of the iPad program has been built into the larger cost of an education at Jesuit. To keep costs down, retain flexibility for the future, relieve some of the possible replacement costs for our families, and maintain consistency of devices, the school has purchased the iPads from Apple and retains ownership.
How will my son learn to use his iPad?
Primarily from the school's faculty, counselors and staff during the school year. They have been using iPads over the last year and are excited to share their experiences with students. Training will begin during initial distribution and continue during the school year. Additional training will be given through the Information Technology Department.
What happens if a student forgets to bring his iPad to school or forgets to charge his iPad?
In the same way that he is responsible for his calculator, textbooks, and homework, he is responsible for bringing his fully-charged iPad to school each day. If he forgets his iPad, he must accept and manage the consequences in each of his classes. If his iPad runs out of charge, he should be prepared and have a charger or battery pack with him. There are plenty of available power outlets available for use across campus. However, he must never leave his iPad unattended without it being in a secure location.
Will students also need a computer?
Classes where a computer is needed (digital graphics, video editing, etc.) are generally held in one of the MacBook labs on campus where students check out a MacBook for use. Students are also able to check out MacBooks for use in the Library if they'd like to work on them during the school day.
Is iPad technical support available?
Yes. An IT staff member is available in the IT office, located in the Library, during regular school hours. You can also reach Apple's extensive iPad support page by clicking here.
